Telegram format with fixed length |
|
The telegram with fixed length is normally used for link layer services. In special cases this format with fixed length can also be used as an acknowledgement instead of a single character. |
![]() |
Single character |
![]() |
|
The single character is normally used in order to confirm data link services
and user data. |
Communication number : |
|
The number of the slave for the data transfer on one line is called COM number ( communication number ). When the slave receives a telegram with this number it is sent from the master to it. The slave number in the telegram received from the master, defines the return address. A "Command to all" is sent from the master with COM No = 255 and will be analyzed but not confirmed from all slaves. |

Address : |
|
Two types of addressing are available for the addressing. The hardware address
and the software address. The software address is only used in monitoring direction, the hardware address in both
directions. The reduction of the address is displayed with the address extension bit ( E ) and the station
number bit ( S ). |
