1.5 Short Instruction to the Handling of Program LIAN 98


 

Example for the simulation with protocol IEC 60870-5-101

The following quick start will show you, how to simulate a master and a slave with LIAN 98 quickly :

Let LIAN 98 work at one channel as master station and at another channel as substation. In this way you can get a better understanding of the easy and user-friendly operation of the software.

Please don't change anything initially. All necessary settings for the simulation of IEC 60870-5-101 in balanced mode ( point-to-point ) are prepared on cannel 1 and 2 after the installation of the LIAN 98 software.

If you like to test the protocol for unbalanced transmission ( multi-point ) select in the configuration for both channels the simulation list "IEC101u.SIM" instead of using the pre-setted list "IEC101.SIM".

 

Procedure for one PC with two serial interfaces

 

Connect COM1 and COM2 of your PC. Please take care that pin 2 and pin 3 of the connecting cable are crossed. The pins 4, 6, 7 and 8 must only be connected for the setting "half-duplex".

 

Operation in LIAN 98
  1.   Click channel 2 button at the main frame. The window for channel 2 opens.
     

  2.   Click channel 1 button at the main frame. The window for channel 1 opens.
     

  3.   Arrange the windows one below the other.
     

  4.   Click RTU button in the window for channel 2. ( Activation of the SLAVE simulation )
     

  5.   Click RTI button in the window for channel 1. ( Activation of the MASTER simulation )

 

 

That's all you have to to. The simulation should run without problems.

Procedure for two PC's with one serial interface each

 

Connect the serial interfaces ( e.g. COM1 und COM1 ) of your PC's. Take care that pin 2 and pin 3 of your connecting-cables are crossed ( see pin-assignment above ).

 

Operation in LIAN 98
  1. Start LIAN 98 at the first PC ( Master station )
     

  2.   Click channel 1 button at the main frame. The window for the channel 1 opens. Maximize the window.
     

  3. Start LIAN 98 at the second PC. ( Substation )
     

  4.   Click channel 2 button at the main frame. The window for the channel 2 opens. Maximize the window.
     

  5.   Click RTU button in the channel window of the second PC. ( SLAVE simulation )
     

  6.   Click RTI button in the channel window of the second PC. ( MASTER simulation )

After that you have seen the simulation in LIAN 98 is running without problems, now you should start with your own experiences.

Below you will find a short description of program files that may be interesting for you.

 


Configuration ( KNF file )

 

When starting LIAN 98 the configuration window opens. Here you can set all required parameters for the complete subsequent program procedure. Different configurations can be saved under individual names and can be loaded again when required.

By clicking < channel 1 ...4 > optional up to channel 12, the channel configuration tab opens. It refers to one particular channel. Among others the protocol type and message format have to be selected here.

Via the channel button on the bottom settings like interface, baud rate, timeout, etc. can be done here.

 

 


Telegram buffers ( TDB file )

 

The complete data communication like transmission and receipt is controlled out of this channel window. Furthermore the required send telegrams can be edited. In the left section of the channel window you will find a list with 500 telegram buffers. Each of this buffers contained one telegram. The content of the correspondent buffer will be transmitted.

The following functions are available :

  • Processing of send telegrams : Edit, copy, delete or print telegrams

  • Import of telegrams from a recorded ARC file in the TDB buffer

  • Transmission and receipt of telegrams

  • Simulation : Master- as well as slave simulation can be activated for each channel separately.

 

The window for one channel is divided into 3 sections of responsibility :

  • EDIT ( left section )
    Selection list of all available TDB buffers for the processing of individual telegrams.
    Via double click the selected buffer can be opened and the telegram included in this buffer can be edited. If the buffer does not contain a telegram, you can insert a telegram of your choice.

  • TDBview ( medium section ) TDB buffer display window
    Screen output for selected TDB-buffers. Edited telegrams can be displayed on screen in the overview in order to check it. A buffer can be selected via mouse click. The content of one or more buffers can be displayed on screen via

  • RCVview ( right section ) receipt window
    All transmitted and received telegrams are displayed chronologically.

    Receive In order to receive messages the receive button must be pressed.
    Transmit Select one or several TDB buffers via mouse click and transmit
    via once,
    via endless cyclic or
    via multiple.

 


Simulation list ( SIM file )

 

Press the button at the main frame in order to open simulation list.

Select "IEC101.SIM ( balanced mode )" or "IEC101u.SIM ( unbalanced mode )" in order to open the simulation list for the protocol IEC 60870-5-101.

The simulation list contains most of protocol specific settings that are necessary for the simulation of the protocol IEC-60870-5-101.

Try out by yourself how the simulation will change with changes in this list.

 

 


Action filters ( VFL file )

 

Press the button at the main frame in order to open pre-filter list.

Select "IEC101.VFL" in order to open the prefilters for the IEC 60870-5-101 protocol ( balanced transmission ). Select "action filters" and have a look at the filters already defined.

With the receipt of defined records actions can be caused for the simulation or data tests. Therefore the possibility exists to define action filters that effect the transmission of a send sequence or transmit one or more telegram buffers.

Display format ( FMT file )

 

Press the button at the main frame in order to open format list.

The required output format of telegrams can be set for each channel separately. The format settings are valid for recording as well as for analysis.

 

 

This quick start cannot replace the manual. It will only help you to become a little familiar with the LIAN 98 Software initially without a lot of reading. However, going deeper into the software, you should review the complete manual.
