3.12 AWD : Automatic Dial-up Service ( IEC 60870-5-101, AEG SEAB-1F )


 

With the automatic dial up function it is possible to test the station ( master or substation ) via telephone line. The LIAN 98 software can make a connection to the partner station ( RTU ) or master ( RTI ) via modem and telephone line and transmit or receive data. In this way the necessary data tests can be done comfortably out of the office via the telephone line.

LIAN 98 is able to process up to twelve modems in the range of COM1 till COM24 simultaneously. In the screen shot via the following link ( example: IEC 60870-5-101: 2 channel modem operation ) channel 1 is connected with channel 2 via two modems and a telephone line. Channel 1 is working as master ( RTI simulation ) and channel 2 as substation ( RTU simulation ).

For IEC 60870-5-101 and AEG SEAB-1F the login with the partner station takes place with a password. The password is always sent by the side which has initialized the connection and it will be checked from the opposite side. Is this check successful, the operation will be started. If not, the connection will be interrupted from the checking station. The password consists always of 16 characters. If the user enters less than 16 characters the rest will be supplemented with blanks by LIAN 98 before transmitting.

The automatic dial-up service was tested with two external modems "FP-Modem-EU" of the company "Panasonic Electric Works Europa AG". At this point we would like to thank very much the company Panasonic ( former Matsushita ) for its support and the extensive practice tests.

Establish a modem connection

When the modem status window is opened with on the toolbar of the channel window ( <cannel 1 ...12> ) LIAN 98 is immediately ready to receive incoming calls. Enter all necessary parameters for the connection in this window. All parameters are also maintained after a restart of LIAN 98.

The partner station will be dialed from LIAN 98 with the button "connect" in the status window. When the telephone connection is successful established with "CONNECTED", LIAN 98 transmits the password after 2 seconds. Now LIAN 98 is waiting 10 seconds ( RTI simulation only ) wether the partner station interrupts the connection because of an incorrect password before the RTI simulation is started. The RTU simulation is started immediatly.

In case of an incoming call LIAN 98 expects within 15 seconds after a successful telephone connection a valid password. When the password is valid the simulation will be started.

 

LIAN 98 dials a substation via modem and simulates afterwards a master station.

 

Modem

The modem allocated to this channel ( COM port ) is displayed. The selection of the corresponding modem has to be done already in the configuration. ( <KNF file> )

Phone number

Enter here the phone number of the partner station to be dialed without blanks and brackets
( e.g. 09131755714 ).

The maximum length of the phone number may be 32 characters.

RTI password

Only used for protocols IEC 60870-5-101 and AEG SEAB-1F !

LIAN 98 dials via modem the master and transmits after the connection of the telephone line in advance the RTI-password. Then LIAN 98 waits approximately 5 seconds to determine if the master drops the connection due to a password failure. If the phone connection is not terminated during this time LIAN 98 simulates the substation.

Is LIAN 98 dialed via modem from a substation, then this substation sends a password after the telephone line is connected. LIAN 98 compares the received password with the RTI password. If the comparison is positive LIAN 98 simulates the master station. When the password is not correct, the connection will be dropped.

The RTI password may contain a maximum of 16 characters.

RTU password

Only used for protocols IEC 60870-5-101 and AEG SEAB-1F !

LIAN 98 dials via modem a substation and transmits after the connection of the telephone line the RTU-password to this station. Then LIAN 98 waits approximately 10 seconds to determine if this station drops the connection due to a password failure. If the telephone connection is not terminated during this time LIAN 98 takes over the function of a master station.

Is LIAN 98 dialed from a master station, this master station sends a password after the connection of a telephone line. LIAN 98 compares the received password with the RTU-password. If the comparison is positive LIAN 98 takes over the function of a substation. When the password is not correct the connection will be dropped again.

The RTU password may contain a maximum of 16 characters.

LIAN 98 activates after the successful connection either the RTI simulation or the RTU simulation.

When all necessary parameters are inserted click the button "connect". Then LIAN 98 will start the connection procedure.

 

LIAN 98 was called from a master station and simulates afterwards a substation.

 

LIAN 98 dials a substation via modem. The connection has failed.

 


Close modem connection

The modem connection is closed with the stop button    on the toolbar of the channel window ( <channel 1 ...12> ) and also the simulation is stopped. The status window is still opened and LIAN 98 can receive again incoming calls or make a new connection itself.
With the "deactivate modem button"    also the modem status window will be closed and no incoming calls can be received.

 

LIAN 98 simulates a master station and the substation drops the connection.

 


Install Modem

An individual modem can be installed and connected for each channel. LIAN 98 can process up to twelve modems ( COM1 till COM24 ) simultaneously. In order to do not lose track of modems or COM allocations please proceed as follows :
Install first the modem for COM1 followed by the modem for COM2 and so on for each further COM port. In this case Windows® installs the first modem ( COM1 ) under its modem name ( FP Modem EU = COM1 ) and adds for each further modem the modem name with an ascending number from 2 ( FP Modem EU #2 = COM2, FP Modem EU #3 = COM3, FP Modem EU #4 = COM4, ... ).

Setup Modem

Before the modem can be used for operation, the so called "Maximum Port Speed" must be set correctly via the Windows® Device Manager after the installation. This parameter must be set to the current baud rate that is used during transmission.

Unless this happens, the password is transmitted right in the beginning of the connection with the wrong baud rate and therefore the partner does not understand correctly. That means that the connection is rejected by the partner.

Only Microsoft® knows, why Windows® is using the maximum and not the set baud rate for the transmission. ???!!!

Important : The "Maximum Port Speed" must be always equal to the "Used Port Speed" !!!

If the modem does not understand the free-line signal please deactivate the prameter "Wait for dial tone before dialing".

 

 

All other settings can now performed in the LIAN 98 software.

The "Phone and Modem Options" in the Windows® Control Panel are opened in LIAN 98 out of the channel window with the button "setup modem". The settings in Windows® must of course comply with the COM port settings in the channel window.

 

 

The settings for Windows® can also be performed directly in the "Windows® Control Panel -> Phone and Modem".
